Oral medicine is that area of specific competence concerned with the health of and with disease involving the oral and paraoralstructures. It includes those principles of medicine that relate to mouth as well as research in biological, pathological and clinical spheres.
Oral medicine involves the diagnosis and medical management of diseases specific to orofacial tissues and of oral manifestations of systemic diseases. It further includes management of behavioural disorders and the oral and dental treatment of medically compromised patient.
Radiology of head and neck is also an integral part of this speciality which not only aids in formatting perfect diagnosis but also in assessing the prognosis.
